Just as soon as we had the Old Sub fixed I took some vacation, and didn't spend it working on the sub... Had a great time anyway!

However, I still feel like I needed to finish the story on the install of the new rear and brakes. And I suppose the most important parts of the story are a few pictures. Along with the pics, you'll find more of the story.

This page is supposed to be more about the current plan, than about what's been done. Some weeks ago Teri spotted a pickup with blue paint that she really liked. Last night we spotted the same pickup at a local cruse-in. We spent some time chatting with the owner, and learned he had a Maaco paint job, and that the color was not what he had intended, but looked good enough. Like me he was planning V-8 and front clip when he bought the truck, but was happy with the original motor and suspension, and while he has been collecting pieces, is content to enjoy it as is for a while. The point of this is that I think we'll use the same color he did. I've found a picture, actually a factory photo, of a 1954 GMC Suburban with a two-tone paint job. Today, I'm leaning toward this look for my truck. The link is on the OldGMCTrucks.com web site, and I hope he'll forgive me for linking direct to this one page. The entire site is worth looking at, and I'd encourage spending some time on it if you are at all interested in old GMC's.

What's next? I've begun thinking about disk brakes for the front. I very much like the better brakes on the rear, but they make me more aware that the front need updating also. ChevyDuty has a kit to put the disk brake from the Chevelle on my current suspension, so I plan to order that soon, and move ahead with that project. I think I'll need to redo all the brake lines, and convert to a dual master cylinder at the same time, so this isn't a trivial project. It will also take some coin, so it may be a couple months in coming.

And while I'm working toward updating the front brakes, I think I'll fix some glass. The driver's side door glass needs to be replaced. Soon. Most the rear glass is in trouble too. I'm thinking about tinted glass for the rear, and need to figure out how to do that. The existing glass channels are full of moss and rust. I've been afraid to disassemble any of it, for fear I'd not be able to get it back together. I might have to try it soon, but haven't gotten up the nerve yet.
