Little Red Truck comes apart -- PART TWO!

More fun times in our yard:

This is what it looked like just a couple weeks ago.

One the first  Little Red Truck Day our goal was to remove the front clip, bed and cab. Getting the motor and transmission and stipping the frame would be nice too. Check this page if you need a refresher on what happened.

If you read  Part One you know we got the front, back and a bunch of bolts removed. This is what it looked like when we gave up for the day...

Last weekend Stu and I removed the cab. To do so we had to disconnect the speedometer  cable and take out the bolts holding the steering box to the frame.

I'd asked  on a couple of boards and newsgroups how I should remove the body, and  how to store it, given I couldn't store it inside.

Stu and I  did this alone and I forget to take pictures...

We lifted  the back using blocks and a floor jack (in the grass) and a cherry picker in the front. You can see the saw horses we used to run timbers across to hold the cab up. Then we pulled the frame from under the cab.

There are  four tires with wheels on the ground to carry the weight. On top of the  tires you see the hood from the '73 Chevelle we scrapped a year ago. On top of the hood are a couple of timbers positioned to hold the cab up  the same way the frame sat under it.

With the cab off this is what was left. This weekend Stu and I, with the help of Daniel and Chris, two of this teenage friends pulled the engine and transmission out.

This was an easy task. They took the bolts out. I did the pounding part of getting  the pitman arm to separate from the drag link. We removed the column and transmission first. I made sure we had disconnected everytihng between  motor and frame, and then we lifted the motor out.

And  here is the frame minus the motor.

Here is the  motor along with a bunch of other stuff ready to display next Saturday (June 14, 2003) at the All GM swap meet in Graham, Washington. Check here for more info.

We expect  to also be there for the car show on Sunday the 15th.

If you think you see something here you want, let me know, and I'll save it for you. And yes Bill, your air cleaner is in this pile.

Next step is to  remove the motor from the Monte Carlo and get started on melding the two frames.  We're not moving real fast, but hey, progress is progress, and while all we've done so far is take things apart, we're real close to putting something together...
