Getting  Ready for New Brakes!

This is the accursed little piece that stopped me cold.

This is as close as I could get the digital camera to focus, so you can't see much, but trust me, its broken... The book in the background is my 1975 Chilton's. Perfect when you're using 1973 parts on your 1955. I knew that book would come in handy. I bought it in 1976  when last year's edition was cheap.

This is what my hand bent brake line looks like. Notice also the new  spring plate and ubolts. The spring plate was made special to move  the shocks in about half an inch on each side. This axle is three-quarters of an inch narrower than the one I took out, and the shocks were already clean where the tires had rubbed a little. We also moved the springs in another quarter inch on each side to allow a little  more room.

Stu  removing the pasenger side drum so I could take it to the machine shop.

And  this is the view I'll see as I leave for work in the morning.

Well actually, I've moved the pickup back into its usual parking place  (and after a couple years of belt-screech, taken half an hour to tighten the power steering belt--it was awful!), picked up the  book that was on the running board, and put various other things  away, but ignoring all that, this is how the sub looks as it awaits  new brakes, and a renewed existance as a daily commuter again.
