OldSub.com
Home of a bunch of rusty old trucks including my 1955 1st-Series GMC Suburban.

Part way through the 1955 model year GM built the last Advance Design and New Design trucks ending series begun mid 1947. The 1st-series 1955's are the last and best of the series in my humble opinion.

This all started when I bought the OldSub, but life never stays simple, and now I'm also working on a 1954 Chevrolet half-ton pickup for my wife, and a dually extended cab for me.. On these pages you'll find my thoughts about these projects and a chronicle of my progress and adventures.

These projects are Rodstorations, which basically means a performance oriented updating of drive train, brakes and suspension, while repairing and mildly customizing the interior and the external appearance of the vehicle.

My '54 GMC Dually!

Two more trucks in one weekend

My projects have been a mix of split window and curved glass trucks, and Chevrolets mixed in with the GMC's. I prefer the curved glass and the GMC grill. Your mileage may vary.

It has annoyed me that my Dually was based on a '50 Chevy instead of a '54 or '55 1st (curved glass) GMC. But that was what I had to work with.

Last weekend when the chance came to grab two 5-window 1-ton '54 GMC trucks I grabbed it. The one pictured is almost complete (needs a bed), has my favoriate wheels and even has a Hydramatic automatic transmission. Too cool! The other is just parts...

COE Suburban FOUND!

You've probably never seen one before

This is a '53 Chevrolet COE Suburban. Or at least it will be when I get done. I think... I bought this from the Old Car Glass Guy near Portland. I met him on the HAMB and after a month or two of dialog and one visit to see it in person, I bought it and dragged it home.

Now the question is does this become a COE Suburban using my 1-ton panel and some surplus Suburban parts, or does it become a dually COE Pickup?

Vote early and often because your opinion counts more than the other guys!

DETAILS ARE HERE

The party is on!

Saturday May 28th (Memorial Day Weekend) we enjoyed Twofer Day... What's that? Well for the past few years I've been inviting a bunch of guys over to help disassemble parts cars and help work on project trucks.

In 2005 I called it Twofer Day because we disassembled both the parts trucks I acquired in 2004. We needed to make room the 1951 Chevrolet 1-ton panel and the 1953 GMC 1/2-ton panel I needed to drag home!

Full details are here.!

Getting out of hand?

No, this one has been on my list for five years!

Several years ago my friend Gene offered me a '54 3100, but it was the wrong time (I didn't have any money). Later my friend Al bought a '55 1st and after learning just how bad the truck was, Al snatched up Gene's truck. Over the years pieces from Al's first purchase migrated to Gene's old truck.

Well this past Saturday I bought Al's '55 1st parts truck. I've been after it all this time because my '54 doesn't have a grill, and this truck does! I'm quite happy, and so are Al's neighbors.

Double Your Pleasure...

Own two Subs, not one!

Its a long story, but you'd be interested. This one is definitely just a parts truck, though parts of it are much better than my first one, parts of this one are way too far gone to bring it back.

Getting it was an adventure. Steve and Stu's Excellent adventure!

Thanks for visiting!

Your feedback is always welcome though I'll most likely ignore or delete anything I don't like or disagree with. Or I'll publish it here along with my own comments.
